Tips to Spot a Fake Before You Buy : Ideally people selling Oakley sunglasses would have the box with original price tag, a bag, warranty papers, and a corresponding receipt from an authorized Oakley dealer. That just almost never happens. Just because a sale doesn’t include a box, warranty papers, and/or a bag, doesn’t necessarily mean they aren’t real. The reverse of that is, just because a pair of sunglasses comes with a box, bag, and papers, doesn’t make them genuine either. Just because a seller says they are “Real” or “Genuine” or “Authentic” Oakley sunglasses, doesn’t make them so. The seller could easily have been misinformed about their product from an unethical supplier.
You may see knockoff Oakleys listed under different names:
- Replica Oakleys
- Oakley knockoffs
- Fake Oakleys
- Faux-kleys/Foakleys
There’s a somewhat negative connotation to the “fake” styles because of the way they’re often sold. However, overall, they are all knockoffs/replicas.
Knockoff Oakleys are sunglasses meant to resemble the genuine Oakleys. They are not sold as Oakleys, and the price is usually substantially lower. You won’t, however, get Oakley’s well-known quality or performance when you buy a knockoff. There is also usually no warranty at all attached to the knockoff versions of designer sunglasses.
The difference between knockoff Oakleys and “fake” Oakleys is all in the presentation. If a vendor attempts to sell you a pair of “Faux-kleys” or “Foakleys” in the place of genuine Oakleys, claiming that the sunglasses are, in fact, real Oakleys, then they are “fake.” When the vendor tells you they’re simply meant to look like the Oakleys (sometimes they will actually refer to them as fake Oakleys) you love but can’t—or don’t want to—pay the price for, they’re simply knockoffs.
Make sure you know what you’re buying whether you prefer knockoffs or the real thing, and if you do wish to purchase real Oakleys, do so from a site or store you trust. If you need the impact resistance and quality of a non-knockoff pair of Oakleys, you don’t want to sacrifice your vision for a good deal from a less than reputable seller.
